[영문] This study is designed to present ideas on some issues which should be considered in establishing national territorial development policies in the 21st century. it aims to provide basic references to policy-makers and national/regional planners in their work for present and future national development policies. This study, which is an amalgamation of eight individual papers, is composed of two parts: general and specific parts. The general part deals with directions for national development in the era of globalization, especially for policies of the capital region(Chapter 1), concept of development axis and future suggestions for its establishment(Chapter 2), and problems of setting a priori planning boundaries in the context of settlment system(Chapter 3). The specific part consists of five chapters. Chapter 4 provides transportation experts' view on the policy fous whether to focus on railways or public roads as major inland transportation mode in the future. Chapter 5 carries some alternatives for managing efficiently the whole country logistics system. In response to the problems raised regarding the current land use planning regulations, chapter 6 supplies ome ideas on improving them. Chapters 7 and 8 try to respond to the increasing desire to enjoy divers lifestyles and high quality of life; the one in respect to the urban policy, and the other in respect to the housing environment.
